Bosch dishwasher E15 or F15: water protection activated

E15 or F15 on a Bosch dishwasher is a water-protection warning, not the ordinary “dishwasher is not draining” situation covered by other error routes. Bosch’s official instruction is deliberately short: close the water tap, switch the appliance off and arrange service because the condition should not be resolved at home for safety reasons. The correct goal is therefore containment, not a trial repair. Once the code appears, do not start another wash or drain cycle to see whether it clears.

First look at the area from a dry position. If water is visible on the floor, do not step into it to reach the plug, socket or controls. Keep other people and animals away. Close the dedicated supply valve only if it can be reached safely without moving the dishwasher or handling a pressurised hose. Electrical isolation is equally conditional: use the normal control and disconnect the supply only when your hands, the floor and the route to the isolator are dry. If that cannot be done safely, leave the electrical side untouched and obtain qualified local help.

Online suggestions to tilt the machine, shake it, warm the base or reset it repeatedly are not part of Bosch’s E15 instructions. Moving water out of the detection area can make the display disappear temporarily while leaving the event that activated protection unresolved. It can also bring moisture closer to electrical components. Keeping the dishwasher upright, unused and connected to no further water cycle preserves the safest state for inspection.

The display cannot tell an owner which internal component or water path caused the activation. E15 does not identify a particular seal, hose, pump or valve that can be ordered from the code alone. This is why a replacement part should not be selected before the appliance has been inspected and identified. A product image or a similar model name is not enough; Bosch service normally needs the complete E-Nr and FD details from the rating plate to distinguish variants that can look identical from the front.

Useful preparation for the service visit does not require dismantling anything. Photograph the complete error display and the rating plate, note whether water was seen and when the code first appeared, and record any recent installation or plumbing work without drawing conclusions from it. If the tap has been closed, leave it closed. Do not remove kick plates, side panels or the base, and do not disconnect inlet or drain hoses under pressure.

There is no home “result check” after these actions because Bosch advises against a confirmation cycle. The successful user response is that the incoming water has been stopped where safe, the appliance is no longer being operated and the exact identifiers are ready for the technician. Any continuing leak, water near a socket, burning smell, damaged cable or unsafe isolation requires urgent qualified assistance rather than further handling.
