An illuminated alarm with a flashing Start light means air is trapped in the Philips 2200 or 3200 water circuit.
This two-light combination is different from the alarm icon flashing on its own. Philips associates an illuminated alarm plus a flashing Start light with trapped air in the water circuit. It commonly follows an empty tank, interrupted water supply or a filter change. Begin by filling and firmly reseating the tank, then release air through the classic milk frother with the flashing Start/Stop control. If no flow returns, remove the AquaClean filter, purge two or three cups of hot water with fresh tank water, and reinstall a correctly prepared filter only after stable flow is restored.
Follow the checks in order and change only one condition at a time. Run a short rinse or test after each action, so the result identifies the cause instead of hiding it. The procedures below stay within the cleaning, refitting and user-menu operations described by the manufacturer.

- The purge releases hot water and may spit while air leaves the circuit. Use a heat-safe container and keep hands away from the frother and spout.
What the symptom may indicate
Checks in the right order
- Fill and firmly reseat the tank
Fill the tank with fresh drinking water and push it fully into its operating position so the inlet connection opens correctly.
- Release air through the milk frother
Place a heat-safe cup under the classic milk frother and press the flashing Start/Stop button. Let the hot-water operation finish.
- Purge temporarily without AquaClean
If the fault remains, switch off, remove the filter, refill the tank with fresh water, restart, let the machine heat and dispense two or three cups of hot water.
- Prepare and reinstall the filter
Once unfiltered flow is stable, prepare AquaClean exactly as the manual describes, reinstall it and dispense another two or three cups of hot water.
Stop and get qualified help when
- Stop and contact Philips if no water flows after the filter-free purge, the pump continues sounding dry or strained, the tank connection leaks, the lights remain unchanged or an electrical fault appears.
