Samsung refrigerator water filter light stays on

The light is a six-month reminder and must be reset after a new cartridge is fitted. Read the old cartridge code first: HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN and HAFCU1 use different shapes.

Samsung's water-filter light is a timed maintenance reminder, not proof that every cartridge with a similar shape will fit. Read the code on the installed cartridge and confirm the full refrigerator model before choosing HAF-CIN, HAF-QIN or HAFCU1. Turn off the water, install the correct filter without force, restore the supply and flush several gallons while watching for leaks. The final reset depends on the control panel: a Filter Reset button, Family Hub's Fridge Manager or the More Options menu may be used. A cartridge that will not lock is a mismatch warning.

Checks in the right order

  1. Identify before removal

    Confirm the full refrigerator model and compare the code and end shape of the installed cartridge with Samsung's official guide.

  2. Replace the cartridge

    Turn off the water. Unlock the old cartridge in its documented direction, remove the protective cap from the correct new one, insert fully and turn until locked.

  3. Flush and inspect

    Restore water, dispense several gallons to clear air and loose particles, and watch the housing and floor closely for leaks.

  4. Reset the model's indicator

    Usually hold Filter Reset for three seconds. Family Hub models use Fridge Manager, while arrow-button models use More Options and Filter Reset.

Stop and get qualified help when

  • Turn water off immediately if the housing leaks, the cartridge rises out of place or water reaches electrical parts.
  • If the light remains on after the exact reset, use Samsung support for the full model rather than repeatedly removing the filter.
