Weak steam on a Barista Pro BES878 or SES878 is first checked at the purge and removable tip. Clear only the tip holes with the supplied tool, then compare a cold-machine purge before replacing parts.
Milk residue can dry in the tip even when the outside looks clean. The manufacturer’s sequence is to wipe and purge immediately after texturing, use the cleaning-tool pin on blocked holes and, when required, remove and soak the cooled tip before rinsing it. This guide does not authorize opening the steam valve or appliance body.
Follow the checks in order and change only one condition at a time. Run a short rinse or test after each action, so the result identifies the cause instead of hiding it. The procedures below stay within the cleaning, refitting and user-menu operations described by the manufacturer.

Safety first
- Switch the machine off, unplug it and let hot-water, steam and metal parts cool before removing or cleaning a component. Never open the casing.
What the symptom may indicate
Checks in the right order
- Wipe and purge the wand
Point the wand into the drip tray, select steam briefly after it is ready, then close it and wipe the cooled exterior with a damp cloth.
- Clear each tip hole
Switch off, unplug and cool the wand. Use only the fine pin on the supplied cleaning tool to clear each visible hole without enlarging it.
- Remove and soak the tip if needed
If holes remain blocked, unscrew the cooled tip as the manual shows, soak it in hot water, clear it again, rinse and tighten it securely by hand.
- Compare a clean purge
Reassemble, heat to steam readiness and purge into the tray. A strong even jet from all holes confirms the tip is clear before milk is introduced.
Stop and get qualified help when
- Stop if the tip or wand is split, steam leaks from its joint, the wand cannot be moved normally, or there is still no useful steam after the official purge and tip-cleaning procedure.
- Stop using the machine and contact the manufacturer’s service team if water reaches the plug or electronics, a breaker trips, there is a burning smell, the casing is damaged, or the same fault returns after the documented checks.
Next step
Repair, replace a part, or arrange a diagnosis?
Use the checks and stop conditions above to choose the least costly safe next step. A symptom alone never proves that the appliance has failed.
Resolve it without buying anything
Complete the 4 safe checks in order. If normal operation returns and no warning sign remains, no replacement is indicated.
Replace only the confirmed part
