Dry the machine, identify whether the liquid starts at the removable tank, outlet or capsule head, then clean only the accessible areas.
A small amount of water in the drip tray is not the same as a continuing leak across the worktop. With the machine unplugged and dry, inspect the removable tank and its seating before looking at the coffee outlet and capsule area. Coffee running around the capsule can follow poor capsule seating, residue on accessible contact surfaces or an incompletely locked head. Water appearing below the casing, at the power lead or after the tank has been removed is not a user-cleaning problem and requires service.
Follow the checks in order and change only one condition at a time. Run a short rinse or test after each action, so the result identifies the cause instead of hiding it. The procedures below stay within the cleaning, refitting and user-menu operations described by the manufacturer.

Safety first
- Never run a wet machine if water has reached the plug, lead, base or electronics. Do not tilt the machine while it is connected.
What the symptom may indicate
Checks in the right order
- Dry and locate the source
Unplug the machine, remove the tank and drip tray, wipe the exterior dry and note the first place where liquid reappears.
- Check the removable tank
Inspect the tank for visible cracks or distortion, then refit it level and firmly. Do not repair a cracked food-contact tank with glue.
- Clean the accessible head area
Once cool, remove the capsule and wipe accessible coffee residue with a soft damp cloth, avoiding the piercing mechanism.
- Perform one controlled test
Refit the trays and tank, place a large container below the outlet and run one supervised rinse before trying one undamaged capsule.
Stop and get qualified help when
- Stop and contact Nespresso if the tank or its connection continues to leak, coffee escapes from the locked head, water appears under the casing or the machine trips the electrical supply.
