Why this part fits
Sage 54 mm force-gauge tamper
The official Sage / Breville source explicitly links reference SEA202WLW0ZEU1 to Sage model code BES870 or to the model-code family listed on this page.
An empty or unlocked tank, unfinished warm-up, scale, or excessive coffee resistance can stop water at both outlets. Fill and lock the tank, wait for Ready, test hot water without the portafilter, then use the documented clean/descale cycle if flow stays absent.
Too-fine coffee, an excessive dose or tamp, an empty or loose tank, blocked basket holes or scale can over-restrict extraction. Use a slightly coarser grind, reduce the dose, tamp within 15–20 kg, seat the tank and clear basket holes with the supplied pin; clean/descale if due.
A grind that is too coarse, too little coffee or a light tamp leaves insufficient resistance in the filter basket. Move one step finer, restore the documented dose and tamp consistently within 15–20 kg; change one variable and compare the next shot.
An incompletely locked portafilter, grounds on the basket rim or an excessive dose prevents a clean group-head seal. Stop the shot, let pressure release, clean and dry the basket rim, lower an excessive dose and rotate the portafilter until resistance is felt; never tighten under pressure.
The machine may still be heating, the tank may be empty or loose, scale may restrict flow, or the steam tip may be blocked. Wait for the steam-ready light, fill and lock the tank, clean the cool removable wand tip with the supplied pin and run the documented clean/descale cycle if needed.
Rhythmic pulsing is normal pump operation while liquid flows, but the same sound with an empty tank must not continue dry. Confirm liquid is flowing and the tank is above minimum; if flow is normal, take no action, but stop immediately and refill if the pump is dry.
A cold portafilter or cup removes heat from a small espresso; on milk drinks, milk that was not heated enough lowers the final temperature. Rinse the portafilter and cup with hot water, dry the basket, let the machine reach Ready and heat milk only until the jug becomes hot to touch.
A light tamp, coarse grind, stale coffee, blocked basket or the wrong single-wall basket for pre-ground coffee can remove crema. Use fresh coffee, move slightly finer, tamp 15–20 kg, clear basket holes with the supplied pin and use the dual-wall basket for pre-ground coffee.
Manual or automatic purge may be missing the tray, the tray may be loose, or the water tank may not be locked; an external electrical leak is different. Aim the wand into the tray or jug before manual purge, push the tray and tank fully home and dry the area; unplug and stop if fresh water reappears outside the tray.
The safety thermal cut-out may have opened after the pump, and on BES870 the grinder, overheated. Switch off using the model’s normal control, unplug and leave the machine untouched for 30–60 minutes; if it stops again after one restart, contact Sage.
Dose, grind size or a reprogrammed shot volume can change cup yield; adjusting all three together hides the cause. Keep one basket and dose fixed, compare the programmed volume, then adjust only grind or amount; use the manual’s volume reset or reprogramming path only if needed.
